De-Stress for Spiritual Health

Do you feel like you're always under a bit of stress or tension, but don't know why?  You know something isn't right, but you just can't put your finger on it? Perhaps you are suffering from spiritual dis-stress.

Other types of stress are fairly easy to discern, but spiritual stress is not always as obvious. It's probably the most difficult kind of stress to pinpoint. It can masquerade as mental or emotional stress. You may feel it in your body.

Spiritual dis-ease has nothing to do with religion. It does have everything to do with your relationship with yourself, God and others. I'd dare say that it is the most important type of stress to deal with if you want to live a healthier, happier life.  Nurturing your relationship with your soul, with others, and with the Divine is essential for cultivating inner calm and healing.

Spiritual disharmony takes many forms. Unforgiveness and its accompanying emotions of guilt, shame, blame, and resentment are clear indicators. So is a lack of love and acceptance toward yourself and others. This takes the form of self-loathing, envy, jealousy, judgment, disdain, and unresolved relationship issues. It is ungratefulness for all the blessings, lessons and trials in your life. It is living primarily in the past or future instead of living consciously in the present moment.

If you are ill, or just want to stay healthy, restoring spiritual ease is a top priority. There have been many a story of miraculous healing when someone forgives and lets go of the past.  When your attention is looking back, you are feeding a past that no longer exists.  When  you release that, your energy is in the present where it helps you live a full, vibrant and healthy life.

Stress or Love?

I've heard it said that you are either creating love or stress at all times. Love is the energy of the divine. It is the energy of wellness and healing. When you make a commitment to spiritual peace, and open yourself to love, you create a space for miracles in your life.  This happens as you release judgment. It happens as you develop love and acceptance for yourself and others.

Obviously, this is a process of becoming that lasts a lifetime. So what can you do to make a powerful shift now?

I believe  the simplest and most powerful action step to take is to develop an attitude of gratitude.

Make a daily habit of giving thanks for little and big things. Give thanks for your difficulties and your triumphs. Set up triggers that will remind you to say thank you. Getting stuck at a red light or in a line at the store is a great time to number your blessings.

It's okay if you don't feel thankful. Sometimes action has to come first. You may be surprised how quickly your feelings shift when offer genuine gratitude even when you don't feel like it.

When you have an attitude of gratitude, you'll find that other aspects of spiritual health become easier. Thankfulness naturally fosters love, acceptance and better relationships. And with that,  comes peace.

Hmmm. Didn't think about writing it in that way. Perhaps I will write another article and include a few action steps. Thanks for the suggestion. So many ways to write an article...
