Have you ever tried a body detox routine? Perhaps you used a seven day cleansing product or put yourself on the ten day lemon drink diet. All these remedies are used in an attempt to rid the body of toxins. Cleansing advice and products abound.
Although the jury is still out on whether or not specific short-term cleanses are helpful, it is clear that your body is a master of cleansing. It must detoxify efficiently or you will get ill and eventually die.
Now they are overwhelmed with toxins on every front. This puts a great burden on our organs of elimination and the cells that have to live in a toxic environment. Toxic cells don't function properly. Diseases such as cancer result.
What you may not be aware of is that for optimum health, you also need to detoxify on your mental, emotional and spiritual levels too.
Let's look at each area in a little more detail.
Mental toxins
Your thoughts have great power to promote health or illness. Your thoughts influence brain chemistry and the chemical messengers that go to the cells. Your thoughts can set the stage for a healing nurturing environment for your cells or a toxic environment.
Persistent negative thoughts keep you in a state of stress. This limits your body's ability to give enough energy and resources to detoxification. It also floods your body with stress hormones that need to be broken down.
A difficulty here is that not all your beliefs are conscious. Subconscious beliefs are very powerful. They are part of your wiring and therefore your programming. Some you inherited and others you learned as a very young child. Yet they are still toxic and need to be rooted out if you want to experience real health.
Emotional Toxins
Your thoughts influence your emotional state and the two are closely linked. Thoughts fuel emotions and emotions lead to more thoughts. Eventually emotions can get "automatic". Your cells get used to the chemical hits and demand more from your brain.
If you want proof that your emotions affect your health just notice how your body feels next time you are happy or peaceful. Notice how it feels when you are angry or upset. Which chemical cocktail feels healthful - stress hormones and their resulting toxins or healing hormones and feel good brain chemicals?
Occasional bursts of emotions like anger and grief can be cleansing and healthy. But when these emotions are frequent and out of your control they become poisonous to your mind and body.
Spiritual Toxins
Unforgiveness, lack of love in all its forms, and an ungrateful spirit keep you closed off from the healing energies of your mind, body and the universe. If God is love, then to choose these negative states is to choose poison instead.
No grudge, resentment or limiting belief is worth the amount of your natural resources and energy it uses up in your mind, body and spirit. These toxic states can cause you to get ill and keep you ill.
Sometimes negative spiritual and emotional issues are passed down from parents to children. These are toxic, low energy states. You can choose to heal them for yourself and future generations.
When you detoxify on all levels, you provide a healing environment for your mind, body and spirit. Even if a physical cure doesn't happen, it's common to hear that people feel whole and healed after releasing toxic thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. You free up energy for wellness and meaningful life goals and create space for the good things of life to come in.

Very good and very true. Thanks for writing this article. The physical and mental certainly do influence the condition of the body and the condition of the spirit.
These are the sort of things I tend to forget about during my daily routine, but really should be taking into consideration.Thank you for all the great information, and the friendly reminder ;)You're welcome! I forget a lot too. What is it they say? You teach what you need to learn ( and remember)
Enjoyed your article, Val. Most people really do not realize the benefits of detoxifying. Nice to see someone here on SearchWarp offering some guidance. Thanks for the heads up- I'll have to develop these ideas some more-seems to have struck a chord with lots of readers.
interesting take on the different types of toxins.. Detoxify is often a commercial, spammy word. But this article digs deeper and identifies that toxins does not exist only on the lower portion of the torso!Good way to put it. Too bad there's so much commercialism about it- muddies the water so to speak. Thanks for your comments.
I always instinctively knew this, thank you for affirming my beliefs. I also think that while exercise is often only thought of in order to rid the body of physical toxins, it can definitely work wonders with the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects as well. I truthfully think that these things ARE, in fact, poisonous, and that something about the vigor of exercise (whether it's the sweating or the spent aggression) really helps rid the body of toxins, no matter form they are in.
Hey Val! Hows life? This is just a wonderful article. You are right by using the word toxin for all the negative stuffs in our life.God bless you and keep writing nice articles. Thanks Chiradeep. You too.
