Genes determine our level of well-being and woes.True, my body is the product of the gene family. How can I not affected? Thank you for sharing good thoughts about it.Genes do play a huge part in how you look and the design of your body, of course. They just don't play as big a role in the diseases we manifest as previously thought. It's more about lifestyle, beliefs and the cells environment - whether it's toxic or healthy. Thanks for commenting.
ValI have always believed the theories expounded in Anatomy of the Soul - basically that your biography determines your biology; rather than the popular theory that genes determine your biology.Enjoyed reading your article.mwahCarla
I so agree with what you say about "not"! I also don't believe we're victims of our genes.I actually suspect that what looks like genetic predisposition is possibly much more about family culture and beliefs, ways of dealing with emotions and needs, all of which is what a small child gets exposed to and sees as reality. Thanks for an interesting, and inspiring article. You are so right! Thanks for commenting and the great rating.
Meditation is key!
Genes can only account for so much. It is our environment and how we treat ourselves that give us so many ailments. We need to look at our lifestyles before we blame heredity. Thanks for pointing this out.GraceYes, lifestyle plays a much bigger part than genes. And altho this makes me have to take a look at where my lifestyle got me (gulp) it also gives me the power to change it for the better (yay!)
Whenever I look in the mirror and see my dad from 25 years ago I swear those love handles are his and he passed them down while I was sleeping. What I want to know is where can I go and live where stress is low and toxins are non exisent?OMG isn't that so!! - I swear sometimes I feel like my mind is inhabiting myself as my mother (even tho I look more like my father) No denying the role of genetics there. As far as an answer to your question - Heaven? :) (in the meantime, we just have to make the best of it! I dare say some toxins are unavoidable altho there is a lot you can do to reduce them significantly. Mental stress - that's an inside job!)
Very nice article, very good points Val. As we have not studied genetics for very long now, I think the book is still open as to what extent they may play in our development and aging processes. Sans this knowledge and our present inability to manipulate them, which they are making great strides in accomplishing, what is clear is that our environment and living habits are the things that we have the most control over, and as you suggest, what we should be focusing on controlling to achieve a longer, healthier, life. Thank you for the reminder. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. It will be interesting to see what else they learn as the years go by.
There's no denying we are prone to certain ailments due to our genes, however, I believe in doing what we can to live a healthy lifestyle, exercise, eat well, work hard, have fun, laugh often. Positive thinking also helps in keeping us fit , body, mind and soul. Good article Val.Thanks Brianna. As I come to understand more about the effects of stress your comment about positive thinking rings even more true. Of course it has to be truly positive, otherwise it could add even more stress.
